Hinchcliffe had the steel wishbone enter and exit his right leg, then enter his upper left thigh, and continue into his pelvic region before it came to a stop.
HOLY SHIT ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?
Thank God IndyCar has the best safety team in the business....

This is solidly within freak accident territory. All racing series using carbon safety tubs need to test them immediately.

Doesn’t IndyCar use solid steel wishbone suspension parts? I mean, he slammed that wall very hard (probably the hardest I have ever seen at that track). I could see that suspension piece going right through a carbon fiber tub pretty easily...

I wouldn’t say easily; the DW12 has hit concrete walls hard many times before and this hasn’t happened.

THIS is the biggest impact at IMS I’ve ever seen. Just brutal. Watch at your risk, please. It’s not bloody, but it’s a huge impact and quite obviously non-survivable.
